Isaac Maddox

Web Developer & Designer

Hi! I'm Isaac Maddox, a web developer and designer based out of Florida. I am a recent college graduate with a major in Software Design & Development. I have a deep passion for computer programming, and especially enjoy web development.

Projects

I have completed a number of projects, both personal and for school. Here are my three projects that I am most proud of.

TaskList

TaskList is a project that I developed to help a local law firm overcome an obstacle. The law office still uses this program in their day-to-day.

FALAFEL

FALAFEL is a project that I developed alongside 3 classmates for my Capstone course at UWF. It solves a problem that my professor faced frequently.

Barricade

Barricade Lawn and Landscape is a landscaping business in south Florida. They wanted a website and a way to receive quote requests.

Work Experience

I have had the privilege to work alongside professionals to learn valuable skills, both technical and interpersonal.

Air Force Research Laboratory

Intern

As a part of the Air Force Research Laboratory Scholars program, I worked with a team respobsible for LiDAR research. I rewrote some existing applications, migrating them from Python to MATLAB, using the MATLAB App Designer. I created an app to interact with a FLIR camera and a lens rotator, to capture and store photos for research. I also built an app that was responsible for managing the power state of a laser, as well as the rotation state of multiple polarized lenses. Lastly, I worked closely with Dr. Jarrod Brown to create an application that used serial communications to control a QPT 90 Positioner. You can view the work that I completed in this position here.

Ducks Unlimited

Web Development Intern

In January of 2023, I was brought on as an intern to the web development team to assist in a full rewrite of the website, migrating to a new CMS. During this internship, I learned many invaluable skills that will undoubtedly help me throughout my career. I learned how to effectively use Git and GitHub to work collaboratively on a project, how a CMS works, Java Server Pages, and gained professional experience using CSS (SCSS) and JavaScript.

User Experience Generalist

As a result of the work completed for the MARCOMMS team during my time as a Web Development Intern, I was hired as a User Experience Generalist at the same company. In this role, I am responsible for designing components and pages for use on the ducks.org website. I have also lead many efforts for the company, including the design and development of the duckDNA website, the design of the DU National Convention app website, and the design of Ducks Unlimited mobile app (Play Store, App Store).

Present

University of West Florida

Teacher's Assistant

As a teacher's assistant, I worked with Dr. Evorell L. Fridge, grading student assignments and creating some assignments as well. I was responsible for creating an introductory Python project, and planning and building the semester project that the students would complete.

About Me

Thanks for making it this far down the page!

I was born and raised for 11 years near Memphis, Tennessee. When I was 11, we moved to Florida and have been there ever since (I much prefer Florida).

I started programming when I was around 10 years old. I was trying to recreate a website and could not figure out how to add a link (I was doing everything in Wordpad). I asked my dad for help and he showed me how to do it in HTML.

After that, my first project was a word scramble game. I used hyperlinks, a tiny bit of CSS, and about 30 HTML pages to accomplish this. When I showed my dad, he said “I think it's time for JavaScript.” We went to the book store and I picked up “JavaScript for Kids” (I still have it on my bookshelf).

Web Development just clicked for me. Everything made sense, and I loved doing it. I knew pretty soon after that I wanted to be a programmer when I grew up. Fast-forward a while, and I still want to.

I graduated from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Software Design and Development, a minor in Computer Science, and a Cybersecurity certificate in December of 2025. I was lucky enough to have one professor — Dr. Evorell L. Fridge — for many classes as I went through the SDD program. Dr. Fridge worked professionally as a web developer in the past, and much of his coursework centered around this.

I like to pay attention to the small details when I am programming. Sometimes a little too much — I think this is at least the 10th version of my personal website that I have designed over the past years. I do believe, however, that this ultimately results in me producing quality work that I can be proud of. I understand that sometimes I have to set that part of me aside to deliver a product on time — I learned this especially during my Capstone class.

I believe that wherever I work, I can bring value to my team. I constantly strive to learn, improve, and leave everywhere (and everything) better than how I found it. Many (many, many) people have said “If you do what you love, you never work a day in your life.” As cliche as this saying is, I believe it holds truth and is critical.
